The MANG Farm: Behind the Scenes

by Nick Hammond on Jun 16, 2022

Since 2015, MANG® has grown each mangrove by hand for all of our Florida projects. We cultivate our mangroves for two years or more before planting in the wild and water them using fresh salt water to ensure our MANGs are ready for whatever nature throws them.

It All Started With One

The first 35 x 10 foot trough was constructed over 6 years ago. Since then, the farm has expanded to include over 40 troughs filled with growing MANGS who's future involves helping to stabilize coastlines across Florida.

Roughly 40 original mangroves are left in the farm, that were started from seed, and have grown as much as 6 feet tall - roughly a foot every year! As happy as we are to see them grow we're even more stoked to get them sent off and planted in new homes to help create habitat for a wide variety of marine species.

Room For New Growth

More recently the farm outgrew it's larger troughs so the team got to work building a new propagation nursery to start growing cupper sized mangroves.

Nurturing Nature

A nursery tech is on staff 3 to 4 days a week to take care of the growing MANGS - ensuring that they're healthy, happy and strong. The staff has even been know to talk, and even sing, to the MANGS to make sure that they're given the proper amount of care they need to survive once they're planted in new homes (guilty as charged).

We hope you enjoyed a peak into the MANG farm and seeing all that we do as a company to make sure our coastal ecosystems are happy and strong. We wouldn't be here without your support! Learn more about our planting efforts as we work to change the world, by heading over to Our Mission page.
