WITH TAMPA BAY WATCH

Bay Watch Collection

MANG is partnering with Tampa Bay Watch to help restore seagrass beds, oyster reefs, and native plants to protect Tampa Bay and restore the biodiversity of this incredible ecosystem.

In the 1950s, Tampa Bay was a rich, biodiverse waterway filled with snook, osprey, rich seagrass beds, and oyster reefs. Today, phosphate mining, fertilizer runoff, and pollutants have threatened the health of one of Florida’s most heavily used waterways. Tampa Bay Watch has been tirelessly working to build oyster reefs, plant native grasses, and remove marine debris while empowering the community to act as environmental stewards of the bay. And MANG is stepping up beside them to help. Every purchase of our Tampa Bay Watch collection goes directly to fund MANG and Tampa Bay Watch’s combined efforts to restore habitat in Tampa Bay as well as support their education programs for children

Behind the Collection

Home to snook, osprey, seagrass, native grasses, and mangroves, Tampa Bay is one of Florida’s most biologically diverse bodies of water. The Bay is also one of the most heavily used commercial and recreational waterways in Florida, home to 4 million local residents and 24 million visitors a year. However, due to phosphate mining in Piney Plant, increasing pollutants, and fertilizer runoff from the Hillsborough River, the rich biodiversity and health of the Bay is in danger.

In the 1950s, Tampa Bay was a rich, biodiverse waterway filled with snook, osprey, rich seagrass beds, and oyster reefs. “When Tampa Bay Watch says they’re working to restore the bay every day, they mean it,” says MANG co-founder Kyle Rossin. TBW is a leader in advocating for education about our marine resources, community-based restoration projects, and a focus on seagrass and oyster development. “MANG and Tampa Bay Watch share the same passions and mission,” says Rossin, “and this partnership is the definition of commensalism: two partners coming together to build a stronger ecosystem.”

To date, TBW along with their partners, have restored the seagrass levels in the Bay to 90% of their 1950s levels—which are critical carbon filters, pulling out more carbon in one acre of seagrass than an acre of rainforest. In addition, TBW is working hard to restore oyster beds and other grasses to their former abundance and educate the future generation to be stewards of the bay. Through MANG and Tampa Bay Watch’s partnership, all purchases through this collection help fund these critical restoration projects and return biodiversity to the Bay for generations to come.
